Under the Stars...a new free pattern for you!

So....I threw my name in at the end of July to be the designer for the Design to Inspire Challenge over at Henry Glass and Company.  They chose me to work with a delightful collection of fabric from Barbara Jones Quilt Camp collection.  It is the cutest fabric!  I love the dots and checks, and of course the little retro campers and the charcoal grills.

The challenge is to create anything you wish from the fabric that is sent to you.  Once the fabric arrived, it was time to let the fun begin!

I mean...who doesn't take a sewing project along when camping????

Head on over to the Henry Glass & Co. Blog and check out my projects....I hope to inspire you!

Also, I decided to give you a free pattern for my Under the Stars little quilt.  It can be used as a table topper or a wall hanging.  Don't you love the checks and dots?  Just go to my Craftsy shop and download the free pattern.

Here are the links to the cute potholder and the fabric basket.  Very easy and fun to make!

Fabric Box from Seaside Stitches.

I encourage you to head over to the Henry Glass & Company blog...today you can put your name in to be the Desire to Inspire Designer for September.  I am in love with this fabric too...I need some!

Another start!

So....I jumped in and bought Tula Pink's book, 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, and now I have taken the bait and started sewing these darling little blocks for the 100 Days 100 Blocks challenge.  It's not like I don't have enough projects started, but these are so simple and fun.  I am using up my scraps from
my collection of Beth Studley's fabrics.  I have wanted to do something with them, and this is a perfect project.  Except, I am all ready behind...I think today is Day 8!

Here are the three sweet little blocks that I have made so far...on to the next five this afternoon!

I really want to keep up with this....I tend to get the blocks made, put them in a pretty box and forget about them.  Oh well...it's going to be a good day!  I had an epidural in my back yesterday, and this morning was able to go for a walk without pain...yay!  And the awful heat has gone away...beautiful summer day! I listened to a song by John Fogerty..."Don't You Wish it Were True".  Have to share a bit with you...I know we are all hoping and praying it will be true someday soon!

"But if tomorrow everybody under the sun was happy just to live as one...
No borders or battles to be  won.
But if tomorrow everybody was you friend...happiness would never end.
Lord, don't you wish it was true...."

Have a beautiful day!  Sharon and Bella, the Yellow Cat

Lovely Blog Award

It is an honor to be nominated by Paige Alexander of Quilted Blooms for a Lovely Blog Award.  Thank you, Paige!
Please go visit her lovely blog, too! She is such an inspiration to me.

The Rules:
  • Thank the person who nominated you, and give a link to his/her blog.
  • List the rules.
  • Display the image of the award on your post.
  • List seven facts about yourself.
  • Nominate (up to) 15 bloggers for this award, and notify them.

Seven facts about me???  Hmmm....

1. I am one-half French...my mother is a French war-bride.  She met my dad, an American GI in Paris, married him and came to America.  She is now 91 years old.  I cannot imagine being brave enough to get on a big boat full of strangers and come to a new country, unable to speak the language.

2.  Being a gramma is one of the greatest joys in my life.  Can't imagine my life without my grandkids!

3.  God does have a plan for me...sometimes I just have to be patient and listen, and hopefully make the right choice.  Sometimes it is not so obvious, but when I look back I know He has had His hand on me every step of the way....through tragedy and through happiness.

4.  Art is my other passion.  Much to my surprise I have been published in two books!  Art Journal Kickstarter  and Cards to Canvas.  I love to art journal and tangle or doodle.

5.  I cannot drive a stick!  My husband rebuilds cars, and I cannot drive the Mustang that is sitting down in the garage.

6. Gardening is a cathartic endeavor for me.  It fills my need to create with the help of the Creator, and it soothes my soul.  Pulling weeds is like attacking that which offends me in my everyday life...without hurting anyone.  Sometimes when I have an issue to resolve, I can do so in the quiet of my garden.  This summer not so much...two reasons..dealing with a lot of back pain and the unbearable heat.

7.  My favorite tv shows are crime shows...love to try to solve the mystery!  Right now, I am binging on The Newsroom (not a crime show) and love it.
Even though it is not a crime show, I LOVE Game of Thrones and Outlander.

8. ok...one more fact...I love Blogland and Instagram....so full of inspiration and new friendships!

Today I am nominating the following lovely bloggers:

Sewing under the dome

This heat is horrible! and I know I am not the only one that is sewing under the dome...I just hope everyone is enjoying some nice cool air conditioning!
Last week I finished a quilt with a modern vibe to it.  I had fun using my rulers to machine quilt it on my domestic sewing machine.  Don't be afraid to try it....it really is a great way to quilt.  I am not sure what this quilt will be called..so for now I am calling it Off Kilter.

On Tuesday our quilt guild had Gyleen X. Fitzgerald for a class called Trash to Treasures.  What a treat!  I am a sucker for rulers, and her ruler is great for making pineapple quilts.  She is a colorful, spontaneous lady...lots of fun!  Here is my block...I actually made 5, and it is addictive and uses up lots of 1 1/2" scrappy strings.

Here are some of the quilts Gyleen inspired us with....

The red and white really appeals to me...may have to make one for Christmas!

Hope everyone is getting some creative time in this week!  Stay cool if you are one those that are in the heat dome!

grace and peace...Sharon

Secret sewing revealed

It's time to show you a Secret Sewing project today!  I'm excited to share a fun new pattern with you.

I had fun quilting this with Angela Walters dot to dot method using rulers.  I think ruler quilting is my new favorite!  It does take time, but worth it!

Here it is....my new quilt design is featured over at the Moda Bake Shop today.

This is a fun block to play with as it can be set in different ways...just play a bit of What if?
I loved sewing with Corey Yoder's new fabric line for Moda...Sundrops.  It plays well with her previous line Prairie, too.

If you decide to make this, please share it with me!  I can't wait to see the variations you might come up with.  I can see assigning a dark fabric for all the large triangles....hmm?

Ok...time to get busy in the sewing room.  More Secret Sewing today!  I will be in my happy place, what about you?

Thanks for stopping by!

Sharon
