Floral Charm a new pattern

Our project for April was an applique project.  I decided to take one of my designs and make it in batiks this time.  Hope you like how it turned out!  It is 15 x 20....a nice little wall hanging for spring and summer.  Mine is made from a variety of Island Batik scraps in my stash. The pattern lends itself to any type of applique you like to do.  Mine is done with needle turn with embroidery embellishments.  It was hand quilted using the quick and easy big stitch method,  I used a #12 Perle thread and an embroidery needle.

Floral Charm

If you would like to learn more about big stitch quilting, here is an excellent tutorial by Sherri Noel of RebeccaMaeDesigns. I thought to write my own tutorial, but she really explains it very well here.
I did use a variety of colors quilt with such as lavender, aqua, cream, and green.

My pattern is available on Craftsy this week half-price....$4.00...for this week only!  Here is a link for you to get your copy of Floral Charm.  When you finish your project and post it on Instagram or Face  book, use the hashtag #floralcharm.  I would love to see it!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have fun quilting today!

Scraps of goodness

Over at Confessions of A Fabric Addict, Sarah is sponsoring the 7th Hands2Help Charity Challenge.
When I found out about it, I decided to participate...I love making quilts for a good cause and I love to use up my scraps.  If you ever want to make a quilt .... "just because" ....I can't think of a better way to use up scraps and fulfill a need.

So...I had a few scraps leftover from a quilt I made, cut it into 1 1/2" strips and made some more pineapple blocks.  May I say I LOVE pineapple blocks?  Especially now that I have this great ruler made by Gyleen Fitzgerald. Did I say I am a sucker when it comes to rulers???? This tool or paper piecing are my favorite method to use for pineapples.
Her book is a treasure as well....Trash to Treasure.  Ever since I took her wonderful class, I have been saving 1 1/2" strips in a big sack so that I can just sit and make pineapple blocks whenever the mood strikes.

This week Sarah is having a linky party of all the quilts that are being made for charity.  Check it out...you will be inspired!

In the current Quiltmaker magazine, you will find my newest quilt featured.  It is an old quilt block pattern with a different layout to play with.  The blocks are 6", and the article gives you other options for layouts.

My inspiration for this quilt came from a quilt top that was in the Pilgrim Roy Collection.  It had never been quilted, and the colors were rather odd.  He thought that was the reason it had not been quilted and just put away.  I really liked the setting, and decided it would look great in a modern fabric.  Playground by Amy Sinibaldi of Art Gallery Fabrics designed this delightful collection of fabrics, and I wanted to use it!

Quiltmaker has kits available for this quilt if you decide you want to make it just like mine.

It was quilted on my Janome 7700 with a quick and easy wavy diagonal line.

If you do make it, I would love to see it!

grace and peace....Sharon
