Scrappy Saturday

It seems like quilters love scraps, and why not?  We certainly have more than we can ever use.  At times I think my strips are multiplying!

Here is a recent finish for Project Linus.  I simply cut up a bunch of blue scraps into multiple sized strips, then started sewing my wonky log cabin blocks.  These are stress free, quick and easy to sew.
I do love the wonky blocks!   Even the border is scraps left over from a backing.

Practicing my pebbles and swirls...thinking don't much like the pebbles but I do like the concentric swirls.  I have been following along with Angela Walters free motion quilt along.  I have been doing free motion quilting on my domestic machine for years, and I am still learning.  Angela is a great teacher, and the videos on You Tube are well worth your time.  And it does take practice!

The Great Outdoors Blog Hop with Island Batik

AAAAh! the great outdoors! We are seeing more and more research that says

 spending time outside is good for your mental health.

 A lot like quilting, in that way!  It is for me!

So on those days when it's just too hot to fire up the iron and sewing machine,

we go outside and enjoy walking, going to the pool, or tending to our gardens.

The great outdoors are what inspired the this hop’s theme.

The fabric that Island Batik sent to me is gorgeous!  It is aptly named "All A Flutter".

I decided to make this throw size quilt which I found in Fons and Porters Modern Patchwork. 

It is the January/February 2018 issue.  I loved the woven effect and decided to give it a go.

Island Batik Modern Quilt Challenge

My June project for Island Batik is finished!  We were traveling quite a bit in June, so I decided to hand piece the blocks for my quilt. I used fabric provided to me by Island Batik, and thread provided by Aurifil to quilt it.  The fabric is City Culture II and the background fabric is Acathus-Sahara from their Victoria and Albert Collection. Both are available in stores now.

This 10" Stacker worked great to create my Drunkards Path blocks.  I'm not a huge fan of curves, so I hand appliqued the curved piece to a 4 1/2" square as we traveled 2000 miles on our trip west.  

As usual, Bella had to give her approval of a new quilt!

So, what makes up a modern quilt?  I know that a lot of negative space is usually found on a modern quilt, bright colors and sometimes a different take on a traditional block.  I had fun playing with different Drunkards Path blocks and this is what I finally decided on.
